Herculaneum yesterday and today; vintage clothing, virtual eruptions and a great restaurant.
This tour is a trip back in time through a vintage clothing market and the ruins of the ancient city of Herculaneum. Right near the archelogical site is the Resina market dating from the Second World War when merchandise from the American convoys pasing through the area was sold there. In the notorious via Pugliano they sell jeans, coats, 70’s shirts, sunglasses and shoes. Don’t forget to bargain with the vendors on prices, and with a bit of passion and patience you can find almost anything, from Chanel silk scarves to Gucci accessories. Leaving the market we head over for a visit to the MAV or Virtual Archeological Museum for a virtual representation of the excavations of Herculaneum and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Before we visit the ruins of the Roman city, we stop for lunch at our favorite restaurant Viva Lo Re, where we’ll be treated to the house specialties in both food and wine, in a pleasant, refined atmosphere. In the afternoon we visit the ancient city of Herculaneum.

We finally understood why in Napoli pasta becomes another dish: we went to Gragnano, the world capital of maccaroni. Here it is a matter of lifestyle. In the ancient pasta factories, they have told us everything about the secrets of the dough and it seemed to eat a plate never tasted before.
